Bufferstop Books opened its doors on June 23rd 2013.
It is run by Volunteers who are members of the Friends of the Bure Valley Railway (FoBVR); our purpose is to support the BVR, which is a not for profit organisation.
A team of (currently) less than 20 volunteers run the shop, on a rota basis. You will usually find at least two of us there during opening hours.
Apart from raising money for the BVR we are all very passionate about books. Our stock covers every subject from fiction, biographies, history, arts, crafts, gardening, children's and, of course railways. We also have a large Vinyl record section, including some Collectable 78s. There are also CDs and DVDs.
Our prices are low - books are mostly £1, cds and dvds 50p.Some collectable books and records are priced more highly, but usually lower than elsewhere(including online).
Do come and visit us, you never know what treasures you may find.
Winter 2023 - 2024
2023 has been our busiest year since the shop opened 10 years ago.
When the daily train service ends on October 29th, bookshop opening hours change to 4 days a week - Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; check below for precise times.
In the days after Christmas and into the New Year, Bufferstop will be open every day. The shop will then be closed from 4th January until 16th February.
We have plenty of stock to sort and prepare for 2024, and plan to move some stock to display it more effectively.
If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch; there may well be a job for you.

Bufferstop Books is on platform 1 of the BVR station, which has its own large car park; the BVR runs trains from Aylsham - see their timetable
We are about 100 metres from Greater Anglia's Wroxham and Hoveton railway station, and about 500 metres (0.3 mile) from the terminus of First Norwich's 12 bus service on Station Road (though why they don't continue to the railway station is beyond me, as the bus then runs empty past the station to get to its start point on Stalham Road).
